Research Progress Update: More than Halfway there!

This is an update to my previous post in which I had only done one week of image analysis.

However, 9.5 weeks later, I am finally done with analyzing over 400 images of lizard claw shape - progress on my independent research project!

The above graph shows progress as time goes on, adding up to 400. There are a lot of plateaus in the graph, especially in the middle. This is due to the fact that school exists, and I got really busy as the semester picked up. It’s also due to the fact that halfway through, I had to take on a sub-project for the research, using a different software to track different metrics, and took a week off to complete that, around Weeks 4-5.

The below image shows the number of images completed per day. Clearly, either I got a lot of images done, or no images at all. Using Dplyr’s filter() function, I selected only the days in which the image number was greater than zero and calculated an arithmetic mean of 19.55 images per day.

19.55 images per day is approximately 80 minutes of work, based on an estimate of average four minutes per image. I did not track this, although perhaps the date and time of the creation of the image analysis files written down by my computer may be a good indicator.

We are not yet done with data collection, however, as we must collect images from a third population in late May/early June, so that will be approximately 150 more images (and, of course, more graphs to come!)
